Abstract: Ab initio molecular-orbital calculations have been performed for the systems Br$^{+25}-Br^{+25},I^{+25}-Te^{+24},I^{+43}-Au^{+69}$, and $I^{+25}-Au^{+51}$ for different interatomic distances using the program "BISON" based on Hartree-Fock-Roothaan scheme. With the help of these correlation diagrams we discuss the electron promotion mechanism for inner-shell vacancy production in the ion-atom collisions and the production of noncharacteristic x rays in transient molecular systems.
